Wine Labourers – Orfanos Estate

Orfanos Estate, a privately owned 20-acre vineyard is located in Mindiloglio, in the outskirts of Patra. All the varieties grown on the Estate by Emmanuel Orfanos (4th generation winemaker) are indigenous. Malagouzia, Assyrtiko, Roditis and Mavrodafni.

The people of the Estate give special importance to the quality of their wine, always respecting the agricultural environment. Since 2022, they turned to different styles of viticulture practices and low intervention wines, in which all those special characteristics of the local varieties are highlighted.

 

Mavrodafne 

Grapes are from 47 years old vines, grown in a single vineyard, without irrigation, at an altitude of 450 meters The red, versatile variety Mavrodaphne, based on indigenous yeasts, kept for 8 months in 4th use French oak barrels. Unfined and Unfiltered. Total production of 900 bottles.

Full-bodied wine with tannins and balance in the mouth between acidity and volume. Aromas of laurel and red fruits and long aftertaste.

Malagouzia 

Using the indigenous yeasts of the skin (10-day skin contact) to accurately reproduce the characteristics of the grape, this natural version of Malagousia is an aromatic surprise. It is left 9 months on Lees, unfined and unfiltered. A wine with extroverted structure, moderate alcohol and crisp acidity leading to a sweet aftertaste that lingers on the palate for a long time.

 Assyrtiko 

Another skin contact wine where the long coexistence (20-day skin contact) of the must with the peels of the grape proves the multi-dynamic character of the Assyrtiko grape. Indigenous yeast fermentation, 9 months on lees, unfined and unfiltered.  The orange version, gives an explosive result in the mouth which is emphasized by the high acidity, the well-structured body and the long aftertaste.
