Old Vines Rhea – White wine – Rethymno
Rhea is from the area of Fourfouras in the highlands of southern Rethymnon. The vineyard is estimated to be between 90 and 140 years old and is a cultural heritage that the young winemaker is striving to preserve and spread further. The Vidiano grapes are hand-picked from a single vineyard in Rhea. Vinification is done with pressure of whole bunches. Fermentation with native yeasts in stainless tanks. Maturity is done in 12 months with fine lees. It is bottled without fining and with very low sulphite use. Prior to 2021, this wine was made under the label of Vidiano old vines, but Iliana has chosen to split this label into the Amygdalos and Rhea single vineyard wines.
Vidiano old vines Rhea is a highly concentrated fully bodied wine with an excellent balance of fruit and acidity, voluptuously thick yet fresh at the same time with beautiful aromatic expression, and the ripe fruit of the variety at the forefront. Perfect for pairing with food like fatty fish or spice-heavy dishes.
